The Chinese hog sector now produces half of the world’s pork and Chinese authorities plan to increase production from 51 million metric tons in 2011 to 71 million metric tons by 2020, just 9 years from now; nearly a 20% global increase.  Rising Chinese demand has driven hog prices up 52% this year. 

Chinese pork production, policies, and future plans will have enormous ramifications to the U.S. and global agriculture sectors.  The feed implications of China’s 2020 plan are staggering. 

Global AgriTrends staff have been in China in September 2011 assessing market conditions and seeking clarification on disease status, expansion plans, corn production, and consumption trends.  A multi-client study will present the results via webinar and report format in October 2011.
